It’s Thanksgiving on the Upper East Side and as with any holiday, Rufus is going overboard and Lily is planning to do the minimum required. Serena has told her family that she is volunteering at a soup kitchen with Trip, only a half-lie because she will be with Trip, but not feeding the hungry. And after Lily tells the gang that Cece is still too sick to travel, Eric, Jenny and Rufus decide to set it up so that they can conference her in on video chat. When Jenny learns that Eric and Jonathan broke up, she goes behind Eric’s back and texts Jonathan to invite him to TG.
Serena reports for duty at Trip’s office and he tells her that he asked Maureen for a divorce and tries to convince her that he is not divorcing his wife for her but rather for the fraud she committed to get him elected. She (barely) tries to tell him she can’t see him until he is divorced but when he lays on the guilt trip about spending TG alone, she caves.
Blair and Chuck are leaving the hotel discussing Blair’s current project: finding out what her mother is up to. She is flying in from Paris to pick Blair up and escort her back with her, and B is convinced that she has a huge bomb to drop and wants to do it in a controlled environment (on the plane). Just then they run into Serena and Blair calls Serena out on her affair with Trip, which Serena denies. Blair tells her she doubts he’ll leave his wife at all.
Dan commiserates about his break up with counselor Nate on the phone. Nate pretty much just makes fun of him. He tells Dan he is headed to his grandpa’s compound for TG, because he has been fighting some feelings for someone as well lately. Moments later, S appears and asks him to go for a walk. Meanwhile at Dan’s, Vanessa got in a huge fight with her mom and asks Dan if she can stay with him. She seems completely normal but he is completely awkward, of course.
During Rufus and Eric’s video chat with Cece something is a little off. She says she has been feeling fine but that Lily told her they were not doing anything for Thanksgiving. When she starts to put the pieces together, she plays along a little bit for the boys’ sake, but she says she is coming to Thanksgiving after all, but to keep it a secret.
S tells Nate that all she did with Trip was one kiss and that she regrets it. Just then Trip calls her and says Maureen was a mess when she got back to NY and wants to have TG together, forcing him to cancel his plans with Serena. She then invites Nate over to her mom’s house to spend the holiday with them.
Lily runs into Maureen on the street and they get to chatting. Lily says she can’t believe how many hours Serena is putting in with Trip, and the soup kitchen on Thanksgiving!? So Maureen is surprised to hear about all this, and when Lily invites her and Trip over for Thanksgiving dinner, she accepts, clearly hoping to get to the bottom of this.
Back in Brooklyn, Dan is being weird with Vanessa, but she is still treating him like the friend she’s always had. Dan called Vanessa’s mom and she shows up at the loft to try to make up with her daughter. She says they are both coming to Rufus’s for dinner to try to work it out. Vanessa tells Dan that if she can’t get along with her mother, she will be spending the holidays with him.
Trip stops by Serena’s hotel to see her and tell her that they will be spending TG together after all –with the whole crew at Lily’s request. Serena tries to fight the power of Trip’s sweet talk, but ultimately she can’t and she stops the elevator so they can make out.
Blair has found an envelope and infers that her mother is changing her will and that that must be part of her secret. She does not want to get on that flight until she figures out what the secret is so when Dorota says Lily hired her for TG tomorrow, Blair begs her mother to attend with her. Then she sees that Dorota has picked up some things for her mother, among them – a pregnancy test!!!
Chuck tells Nate that his security cameras caught S and Trip making out in the elevator. They agree someone has to try to get through to her, but how? Nate gets on the phone with hotel security.
The guests start arriving for Thanksgiving at Lily’s house. Blair is trying to convince her mom to drink champagne, Serena has a crazy awkward convo with Trip and his wife, Cece tells Lily they have a lot to catch up on, and Chuck tells S and T not to hook up in his hotel anymore. Maureen finds Nate and immediately asks him if Trip and Serena are having an affair. Nate confirms her suspicions but tells her he knows a way to end it quickly and quietly.
Jenny asks Blair about Eric’s role in what happened to her at Cotillion (ie being left escortless on stage). Blair confirms that it was Eric’s plan. Jonathan had tipped off Jenny by responding to her text saying he couldn’t believe her and Eric were even on speaking terms after what happened at Cotillion.
In true Gossip Girl Thanksgiving style, no one is actually interested in the holiday, but rather the many other mini-conflicts that they are currently dealing with. When Vanessa’s mom asks Cece to tell her about Lily and Rufus’s wedding, she answers that she wasn’t invited. Rufus says that he thought she was too weak to travel, but Cece says she has been in remission since August….Hmmm.. then why did Lily not come home until October? Jenny confronts Eric about his sabotage at Cotillion, and he doesn’t deny it. Vanessa is starting to get annoyed that Dan keeps acting awkwardly toward her, defending her mom and giving her strange looks.
When Rufus gets up to tell a joke, Blair confronts her mom about being pregnant and she doesn’t deny it. Serena and Trip are giggling together and Maureen is pissed. She takes the video from the elevator from Nate’s phone and tells them that their relationship ends now or he becomes a political joke and she the punch line. Lily walks over just in time to see the video. Chuck is also pissed because Nate got that tape, Vanessa flips out at her mom, Jenny flips out at Eric and no one laughs at Rufus’s joke.
So everyone leaves the table to clean up their own messes privately. Lily tells Serena she needs to end her affair with Trip and until she does she is not welcome in their home. And after a little soul searching, she apologizes to Maureen and says that she won’t see Trip ever again.
Eric tells Jenny why he sabotaged her, that he pretty much hates her, and that it led to his breakup with Jonathan. So although Lil J and Eric talk through it, it seems they are still enemies.
Blair’s mom tells her she is not pregnant, but has decided to move to Paris full time. She is excited, but then who was the pregnancy test for? Vanya comes just to them just then and asks why Dorota hasn’t been taking his calls. And they both put it together – Dorota is pregnant!
Vanessa’s mom ends up leaving the party when they realize they just can’t get along.
Once Blair hears how Serena ended it with Trip, they make up. Blair invites Serena to Paris with them so they can hang out just the two of them.
Rufus asks Lily why she stayed with her mother for several months after she was in remission and Lily lies through her teeth. She says her mother changed when faced with her illness and since they were getting along so great she wanted to stay and enjoy her. Rufus seems ok with that and when he leaves Cece urges Lily to tell him about the little trip she took this summer, but Lily hopes to keep that secret buried.
Blair and her mom make Dorota talk to Vanya. She is scared because she says they are not married and her family will flip out.
Dan runs into Vanessa’s mom in the loft and he starts talking about how amazing Vanessa is, in an effort to bring mom and daughter back together. But, V’s mom just accuses Dan of being in love with V and Dan just doesn’t really know what to say. He leaves the two ladies alone to talk through their issues.
Trip is understandably mad at Nate, but Nate feels confident he did the right thing. Chuck encourages Nate to tell Serena how he feels about her saying that she deserves someone like him.
B and S go upstairs to the safe to get Serena’s passport and Trip interrupts them to make one final plea to Serena. He says he is leaving his wife and he wants S by his side. He will wait in the car downstairs and hopefully S will change her mind and come join him. She is all set to go when what does she find in the safe? A letter addressed to her from her father, opened and postmarked weeks ago. She reads the letter and on her way to meet Trip, Lily tries to stop her. But Serena says Lily has no right to judge Serena ever again and gives her the letter.
Vanessa and her mom make up. Her mom comes to talk to Dan and says that he broke Vanessa’s heart once a while ago and their friendship almost didn’t recover. So if he wants to tell V how he feels, he better be sure he really does feel that way. Then Vanessa gets a text from her new man from Drama club and Dan doesn’t get in their way of meeting up with him. Apparently he’s not sure of his real feelings for her after all.
Nate catches Serena just before she gets in the car with Trip and stops just short of telling her he loves her (although she gets the idea anyway). He asks her to stay with him. But you know S… she leaves Nate in the dust. Chuck decides not to go to Paris to get drunk with Nate, like a good friend.
Eric is planning his attack against Lil J and it’s gonna be good!
Dorota tells Vanya about the pregnancy and he is so excited he starts jumping up and down! Finally Dorota catches a break! Lily is in her closet rereading the letter from S’s dad to S and when Rufus comes up to ask her a question, she quickly hides the evidence in her jacket pocket. It happens to be the same jacket that Maureen was wearing that day and as luck would have it, Maureen grabs the wrong one. How lucky for her that she finds a juicy letter filled with all of her mortal enemies secrets.
So with another Thanksgiving under our belt, Eric is planning his attack on Jenny, Dan is confused about his feelings for Vanessa, Serena officially continues her affair with a married congressman, Nate confessed his love to Serena and got knocked down, Lily’s summer trip secret is safe for now, unless it has to do with Serena’s dad, in which case it has fallen into the hands of Serena’s worst enemy.
The holiday season has begun! Xoxo! |
