Dan “the Man” Humphrey is sure in a good mood this New York morning. He is vividly remembering the events of last night (and maybe even embellishing his memories a little bit too.) Ah yes, his wild night with Vanessa and Olivia. He is in such a good mood, he actually high fives a stranger on the street.
Serena is trying to clarify things to Blair, who is refusing to answer her calls. Serena leaves 30+ messages trying to convince Blair that nothing happened between her and married Congressman Trip, despite the scene she walked in on with Trip gently caressing Serena’s hand.
Blair tells Chuck that she is going to try to get involved with (read: lead) a new crowd at NYU, the drama kids. Chuck tells Blair that he has to spend the day showing an Ambassador client’s son around NYC.
Dan, still high on life, starts bragging to Nate about his sexcapades and rather than give him props, he calls Dan an idiot. He tells him that when you have a threesome, the third party has to be a stranger, otherwise it’s awkward for the girls. Dan maintains that everyone is fine and still friends. How is Nate the expert in the rules of kinky sex, you ask? Well, he knows things, he’s been to Europe and Chuck Bass is his best friend. Best line ever!
Dan then runs into Vanessa and can we say awkward?!? She says she hasn’t seen much of him lately and has he been avoiding her? He tells her no, and to prove it he invites her to a Morrissey show that night. And then they awkwardly embrace. Yikes.
The theater students seem to be just as snobby and elitist as Blair so one would think they would get along great. Alas, this is not the case. They are trying to get Lady Gaga to perform but she won’t respond. Blair namedrops her stepdad Cyrus, entertainment lawyer extraordinaire, but they are not impressed. And then they don’t invite Blair to their fairy tale themed Cabaret party. Not cool.
KC is offering Olivia bad movie pitches and Olivia wishes she could just stay at NYU and act. She is so happy there with Dan. Olivia then offers Dan some help on writing a play for an application to get into the playwriting program at NYU next year. He tells her that tonight he and Vanessa are hanging out, and she pretends not to be upset about it.
Chuck stops by the VDW compound and interrupts Lily and Jenny trying to find Jenny suitable date for the Horticulture gala. But luckily, Chuck is with the hot son of the hotel guest, Damien, and Jenny offers to show him around town and relieve Chuck of his duty.
Blair goes to Olivia for advice on how to win over shallow and superficial actors. Olivia mentions that she did get invited to this cabaret party, and an idea forms in her head. It would be great for Dan to get exposure to these people…and if it keeps him away from Vanessa that night, well that’s even better.
Trip and Serena – Oy Vey! These two are a joke. Trip walks in on Serena leaving him a business related note in his office and they share an awkward conversation about work before getting to the point. Standing about 6 inches away from each other, Trip tells Serena how distracted he has been, and she concurs. She tells him that nothing happened, but then why does it feel like it did? Trip and his wife are moving to DC soon, a few months earlier than expected. S and T decide to just avoid each other until then, unable to trust themselves around each other. And just then, his wife comes in and asks S to help them with the move, and she doesn’t refuse.
Nate is at his apartment, convincing his mom that it was his grandfather that set up the Hudson scandal when Serena walks in. She says she needs to talk to him because she is about to become involved with a married man…Trip.
Olivia has not been spending any time in her dorm room lately and when she finally does come back, Vanessa asks her flat out if she has been avoiding her because of what happened the other night. She tells her no way. Then when Vanessa starts to talk about Dan and going to the Morrissey concert, she gets that Vanessa-loves-Dan twinkle in her eye. Olivia tells her that a month ago she signed herself and Dan up for this Cabaret party, which will be great exposure for Dan. So sorry, V, no Dan tonight.
Nate starts to lecture Serena about all that Trip has sacrificed for this campaign and how he is not going to throw it all away just for Serena. After she starts to get the hint and leave, Nate tells her she can count on him, no matter what.
Jenny and Damien are getting along pretty well when the mean girls from another school start checking them out. Jenny thinks they will be super jealous, until, he grabs a remote controlled sailboat, thus humiliating Lil J.
Olivia and Dan have one day to write a fairy tale to be performed at the Cabaret that night. Dan is warming up to the idea until Blair comes in saying how she is going to be the producer, director and co-star. Blair says she wants to incorporate Lady Gaga (an NYU alum) into the play. Dan is not happy. He is even less happy when he finds out Olivia cancelled his plans with Vanessa for him.
Jenny is still annoyed with Damien, but is less so when she learns that he was selling E with the sailboats.
Dan calls Nate for advice and Nate tells him he needs to prove to Olivia that he and Vanessa are just friends. Nate then gets back to his other chore, keeping S from Trip. He makes her call him and cancel on the packing session, and won’t even let her meet him for lunch later. Nate says he is not going to let Serena out of his site until Trip leaves town.
Dan tells Vanessa that he needs her help writing this play. When he is explaining to her what it’s all about, he mentions that Olivia just signed them up for it recently…not exactly the same story that V heard from Olivia.
Dan’s play is a take on Snow White with a Lady Gaga infusion. Blair is to play the aging rock star Queen, Olivia an up and coming, outrageous, Pop Star Snow White, Blair’s possee will be the struggling Boy Band dwarfs and Dan as a Prince Charming Record Producer. Everyone is relatively pleased until he brings in his new director: Vanessa.
Olivia and Vanessa begin to chat and are clearly trying to one up each other in terms of who has the most experience working in theater, who is closer to Dan, etc. Though thinly veiled in fake sweetness, everyone can tell there is something up with these two.
Damien explains that he doesn’t have to go through customs, since his dad is an Ambassador. So that, and that he likes the thrill of danger is why he deals drugs. Jenny admits that it was thrilling and seems open to more similar experiences. He invites her out with him that night.
Nate and Serena are hanging out, joking around like old times. S gets a call from Trip, but Nate won’t let her answer it. He tells her that they are going to get drunk until Trip’s plane leaves.
At the play rehearsal, Vanessa directing Olivia is not working out. She tells all the other dancers to get in front of Olivia, and then when Olivia gets angry, she asks Dan to pick sides. Olivia claims that Vanessa is always trying to box her out. Then Vanessa accuses Dan of the same thing. Well, someone mentions “that night” and in Olivia’s flashback, V basically pushes her off Dan. O then loudly accuses V of being in love with Dan and as soon as the girls storm off, Blair makes an off-handed comment about how it seems like they had a threesome. When Dan reacts, Blair gets it right away. Dan says he is going to go after them, but in which order?
Luckily, Dan’s got Blair Waldorf to partially untangle his mess. She goes to find and blackmail the girls, each one separately. In typical Blair dramatics, she clearly spells out why the tabloids finding out about this would ruin their lives, and it seems pretty effective.
Serena and Nate are getting drunk and the topic turns to the last time they got drunk together, the infamous wedding where they slept together, over 3 years ago. They are flirting and the night could go going that way when Nate gets a call from Trip, saying that he knows his wife was behind the Hudson scandal, and he can never trust her again.
Meanwhile at a club, Jenny is about to witness her first official drug deal. Fun fun fun!
At the play, both girls show up angry. Dan apologizes to Olivia and says Vanessa does not have feelings for him, and she agrees. But she says that Dan has feelings to Vanessa. She describes a moment during the threesome where Dan looked at Vanessa and kissed her like he never has done with Olivia, and though he tries to deny it, it is clear there might be some truth to it.
But, the show must go on! And it may hit a little too close to home when Olivia starts singing Love Game to Dan (guess he wants to play, wants to play, a love game, a love game…)
Chuck comes to the club to bust the Ambassador’s son and rescue Jenny. Apparently he found a stash in the hotel room. He tells them to get out of the hotel and to stay away from Jenny. But we all know how Jenny reacts to being told what to do…
During the second part of the play, Olivia is not around for her cue and Blair pushes Vanessa on stage in her place for the Disco Stick number. It seems to work out ok, though.
At the bar, Nate is confessing to Serena that he tried to tell her he loved her two years ago at the Masquerade Ball, but ended up telling Lil J (remember, they switched masks?). Serena is truly touched and they go to kiss when Trip walks in. He starts pouring his heart out to S and N about how hurt he is by his wife and how his marriage is no longer what he thought it was going to be. He then asks S to take a walk with him and despite Nate’s protestations, she agrees.
On stage, Dan has to wake Snow White (now Vanessa) with a kiss and as he does so, he has flashbacks about his tender, loving, amazing kiss with V during the threesome. After the show, Blair and Dan get accolades for the show, and Blair leads the whole party into another room…
…where, through Cyrus’s connections, they get to watch Lady Gaga herself have a dress rehearsal! She performs Bad Romance on stage in all of her Gaga glory. In the back of the room, Dan and Olivia talk. O says she skipped out on the play so Dan could kiss Vanessa again and realize that he really does have feelings for her. She then tells Dan that she is going to take one of KC’s scripts, and she’ll be back in the fall. Just then Vanessa walks up and apologizes for how she acted in the play, and tells Olivia that she really doesn’t have feelings for Dan.
Chuck warns Jenny about being careful and going down the wrong path with this Damien dude, but Jenny says she likes him and that it is lonely and boring being Queen.
Oh the last minute wrap up of the episode: Shock of all shocks, Serena and Trip cross the line in his office. Jenny texts Damien saying that she wants to hang out again. Vanessa is talking to the leader of the acting group that likes her while Dan is alone. And Nate is by himself getting drunk at the bar where S left him.
Until next time, xoxo. |
