THE GRANDFATHER: PART II
Well this week we open with a relatively new sight: Serena working! She has to take her new “boyfriend” Patrick to Tripp Vanderbilt’s election party so that he can get into character for a new movie he is trying to get and take photos with important politicians. KC doesn’t care that S and Nate are not exactly BFFs after the Carter/Tripp photo mishap, so Serena has to find a way to make it work.

Dan and Olivia wake up together and he is dying to see her recent Jimmy Falon appearance. She makes up excuses and is clearly trying to get him not to watch it, for some reason. He doesn’t seem to catch on to that fact. And he is not even a little weirded out when he is on his way to the bathroom and someone in the dorm stops him and says “Oh, watch out it’s bathroom boy, clear the way.” Really, Dan? That doesn’t strike you as even a little bit odd?

Our resident filmmaker, Vanessa, has been given the honor of filming Tripp’s campaign. Chuck is lending his hotel to the cause of the campaign party. Nate’s grandfather confides in him that the poll numbers are not where they should be, thanks to Serena and that it would take a miracle for Tripp to win now.

Serena comes by Olivia’s to drop off the Jimmy Fallon tape for KC, and having seen it, she understands why Olivia wouldn’t want Dan to see it. Olivia tells S her “plan” to keep Dan away from all forms of media so he doesn’t see the tape. When Dan interrupts them, they make up a story about her having stopped by to talk about how happy she is fake-dating Patrick. And we learn that apparently Patrick has had some hard times since he broke up with Olivia, and has not had the best taste in movies to say the least.

Serena runs into Blair leaving Olivia’s dorm room and while she kinda tries to be the bigger person about their falling out about the Gimlet bust, Blair refuses to apologize. When Serena teases Blair about not having any real friends, but only minions, Blair becomes a girl on a mission.

Tripp tells Nate that although his numbers may be down, he wants to fight fair rather than relying on his grandfather to find some scheme to make sure he wins. Just then, they hear someone shout that someone has fallen into the Hudson and is drowning. Without batting an eyelash, Tripp jumps in and saves him. Conveniently enough, Vanessa had been interviewing someone about the election right there where the drowing took place, and she just happened to get it all on film. This means a lot of good press for Tripp as a hero, just what you need hours before the polls close.

Serena manages to get herself an invitation to the election party, plus one for Patrick. Nate refuses her but Tripp invites her himself.

Blair has decided she wants to make friends but is having no luck at all. Suddenly, she sees a tall blonde woman with a hot new bag, and goes up to her to make friends. Her name is Brandeis and Blair invites her to Tripp’s party.

Dan and Olivia go over to Lily’s place to play games with a sick Jenny. Olivia and Jenny get a GG blast about bathroom boy (it was only a matter of time before GG found out, right?)

Vanessa is all excited that her footage will be shown on the news, but when she goes back home to edit the tapes, she notices that the drowning man actually jumped in.

She confronts Nate with this info and he plays dumb. But V smells a rat and she doesn’t want to be part of a cover up. Nate tries to cover for his grandfather but Vanessa says she is going to NY One with the info, but as soon as she leaves, he suspiciously picks up the phone.

At the election party…Blair is having fun with her new friend Brandeis. B loves that her new friend knows all of the politicians. She and Serena have words when they run into each other. Blair spots Patrick peeing in the flower pot…right in the middle of the party.

Dan stumbles upon Olivia’s interview on the internet and makes his excuses as he rushes out of the house, sans Olivia. O and Lil J figure out that he must have seen her Fallon interview on J’s computer.

Vanessa shows up at election HQ and realizes the women the she sold the footage to was a fake, someone that Nate clearly set up. Looks like the apple doesn’t fall too far from the tree, eh Archibald? Your grandpa would be proud.

So Blair sees Patrick downing like a million drinks and makes sure he gets up to his suite. She tells Serena that she has to do what she has to do to protect Nate’s big night at Chuck’s hotel…once again at the expense of S’s job.

Back in the VDW abode, Olivia shows Jenny the Fallon interview. On it, Olivia tells Jimmy that on their first date Dan came back to the table with his shirt inside out, claiming that he had walked into a spider web and needed to take off his shirt to get rid of the spider. Jimmy exacerbates the situation by calling him Bathroom Boy and saying that the spider was just an excuse. Olivia make fun of him or anything, it was mostly taken too far by Jimmy. And at the end, she mentions it’s their one-month anniversary.

Serena tries to get Patrick up but he is clearly drunk. He mentions that Blair’s friend is a high-priced call girl. Serena then goes downstairs and implies to Brandeis that she is also a prostitute, and Brandeis gets upset because she thought she was “working this party alone”.

Vanessa goes to chew out Nate for trying to keep the story about the rescue being a hoax from the press. Although apparently Vanessa found a way to get it out there anyway because just then the news reports that it was indeed a hoax. Tripp blames his grandfather but his grandfather denies that he set it up, while Nate just stands there looking especially uncomfortable (guilty anyone?) Tripp decides to step out of the race.

Serena confronts Blair to tell her that she got her new BFF escorted out of the party for being a high class prostitute. Blair implies that since Serena is the one being paid to date her client, maybe she is the prostitute. Blair then walks away with Chuck, saying she wants to go get some cake, when drum roll please Serena smushes Blair’s face in the red white and blue cake! Really, guys, it’s one of the best moments in GG history.

So Nate steps up to the microphone at the election party, and comes clean. He tells everyone it was a hoax, but that Tripp had no knowledge of the set up. How does he know this? Because he is the one that arranged the hoax in the first place.

Chuck finds Serena and tells her that she needs to make up with Blair. They are not kids anymore and if they don’t work on their friendship, it’s going to be over.

Olivia goes to talk to Dan and apologizes for what happened with Fallon. She says that just this once she wanted to talk about whatever she felt like talking about, without it being scripted by a publicist…and she bombed. Well, it turns out that on their first date Dan was so nervous he kept sweating through his shirt and kept going to the bathroom to use the hand dryer. He was never mad at her, he just left the house abruptly because he forgot about their one month anniversary and he wanted to light some candles/ probably do other romantic things for her at the Brooklyn loft. So all is well for Dalivia, for now.

So Tripp wins the election and he promises Nate he will be the best and most honest congressman that district has ever seen.

Serena apologizes to Blair, still getting the cake out of her hair. And Blair says that she feels sorry for Serena. Blair has college and a real relationship and is starting to make a life for herself…while Serena is working some lame job, fake-dating a guy and not really on good terms with her family or Nate (one of her oldest friends). So Blair tells S their friendship is effectively over and walks away.

Brandeis tells Blair that she really is a prostitute and though B finds it gross, she thinks they can still shop together.

Serena has to take home a drunken Patrick and when he tells her that he has to go to a new bar with him because that’s what she gets paid for, it pushes her over the edge. She writes a note “KC, I quit” and delivers it, with Patrick to KC’s house.

Tripp’s wife and grandfather share a drink and she reveals that it was she who planned the whole thing about the hoax in order to get Tripp elected and get the grandfather out of their lives. We’ll see how that works…

Blair is clearly upset about Serena but tells Chuck that he is all she needs.

Olivia gets Jimmy Fallon to apologize on the air for being so hard on Dan and wish them a happy anniversary. Cute.

And Serena ends up drinking at the bar with Tripp, sharing her troubles so that he gets to think about something other than politics. Let’s hope it ends there, guys. Apparently Tripp’s wife is not one to be trifled with.

Xoxo.
