THE FRESHMAN
College, college, college, college, college….

Blair is picture perfect – pearls, headband and all on her way to conquer NYU. Serena is half heartedly packing, clearly not convinced about Brown. Brooklyn Dan is back, popping a Eggo out of the toaster oven and within the first hour gets invited to a writers group in the coffee shop. Looks like Serena was right, NYU is the perfect place for Dan Humphrey.

Serena gets in the limo to go to Brown but instead stops at her dear old step-brother Chuck’s place and tells him she needs a place to stay. She explains that she just doesn’t really know what she wants to do, and going away to Brown to figure that out doesn’t seem to make sense. Chuck tells her she can stay with him, and then let’s her in on his secret: he is trying to open up a restaurant with a speakeasy in the back , endorsing debauchery and unreputable behavior, as kind of a homage to the last time the market crashed. S thinks it’s a great idea and promises to be out of the house while he has his business meeting.

Back at NYU—you can take the Blair out of the Upper East Side, but you can’t take the Upper East Side out of Blair. She already has acquired a posse and is giving them her own brand of NYC orientation (including gift bags with Tiffany’s boxes and headbands), with Dorota’s help of course. It all seems to be going pretty well, until …
Enter her new roommate: an excited, innocent, friendly, Georgina Sparks.

Blair and G have it out, although Georgina insists she is there for a fresh new start, not to ruin Blair…we’ll see about that. Luckily for everyone Vanessa is in a room down the hall too.

Later Dan and Vanessa make up at the bookstore when guess who they run into? None other than Georgina herself, playing the victim that got stuck with Blair as a roommie, and wishing she had some other friends at school. Dan can see through her but Vanessa falls for it.

Nate and his new girl Bree are hanging out at her parent’s apt. and they decide to stay there for 24 hours to see if they get sick of each other…guess what? They don’t. She eventually tells her parents, once she realizes it’s not just a fling with Nate, but only time will tell whether they accept them together or not.

Well, it looks like the brother/sister duo hits it’s first snag when Serena walks into Chuck’s business meeting and accidentally mentions the club that Chuck was purposely keeping secret. Later, Chuck yells at Serena and calls her a “train wreck”. Yikes. She takes off and now is hiding out in the Brooklyn loft, courtesy of her other step-brother, Lonely Boy Humphrey. Later, Serena goes back to the apt. to try to talk to Rufus about what is going on, but she sees that Chuck has beaten her to it. Rufus basically tells Serena that if she goes to Brown right now, he won’t tell Lily anything. But Serena takes this as a threat and tells Rufus he is more scared of Lily than she is, and walks out. With nowhere left to turn, she calls Carter.

Blair is throwing a sushi party worthy of the Upper East Side in her dorm that has approximately 1 guest. Everyone else is hanging out, eating pizza and watching a documentary Vanessa made, all organized by Georgina. Blair fails to convince everyone to join her party. The next day G throws one of her own and tells Blair she is just a loser at college who will never fit in. So desperate times call for Blair to do the unthinkable – ask Dan to take her to G’s party. At the party, Blair tries her hardest to mingle with the commoners. During one of the best moments in GG history, Dan’s new writer friend Katie asks Blair if in high school everyone was jealous of Dan for being such a great writer. Blair manages not to laugh but rather asks, ‘Dan is a writer?’ She looks painfully uncomfortable at the party. Dan apologizes to G for blowing her off the other day, and she forgives him but warns him that Blair is just using him to fit in.

Serena and Carter are having drinks when they see Chuck Bass having another business meeting. Serena decides to pay him back for insulting her and telling Rufus about her Brown plans, so she sabotages his meeting. He tells her that he told on her because he was genuinely concerned for her, but now she has clearly made an enemy. Then Carter puts the pieces together and realizes S only wanted to hang out with him to help her get back at Chuck, and he leaves.

Back at G’s party… Scott tries awkwardly to talk to Dan and it becomes clear that Scott recommended to Vanessa to take the same class with the same professor as Dan. When asked what other classes he had to recommend, he got very defensive.

Just then, Blair gets up on the mic to make a toast to her awesome roommate Georgina who threw this killer party…who knew Jesus freaks knew how to party?! Just then a mob of ‘OMJC’ T shirt wearing, pamphlet toting Christians from her old camp come in singing about Jesus, and Blair announces that she can’t believe her roommate would try to throw a conversion party to convert all the new freshman! Blair then conveniently has limos waiting to take everyone to a bar downstairs.

When she confirms to Dan and Vanessa what G has originally told him about B just using Dan, they decide they are not going to stand for it. Dan gets up on the mic and tells everyone that B invited those people just to embarrass Georgina, and Dan suggests they all stay at the party and drink cheap beer. Georgina looks at him like he is her savoir, and Dan feels great about having done the “right” thing.

Back in Brooklyn, Serena and Rufus make up, and he tells her that he would like to be more to her than just Lily’s most recent husband. She tells him she deferred a year at Brown, and wants to take this time to figure her stuff out. Rufus, Serena and even Blair seem to have come to terms with her decision.

To end the episode, Scott continues to ask too many questions about Dan, but Vanessa doesn’t seem to notice. Serena apologizes to Carter and tells him she wants to be with him and they kiss. Blair curls up in bed next to Chuck. All is pretty much right with the world until…

Dan wakes up with Georgina sleeping on him and just in case we had any doubts about what happened last night, they kiss!

Oh Dan, you crossed Blair only to end up making out with Georgina. When will you ever learn?
