You're the One That I Want is the sixth book in the bestselling Gossip Girl series by Cecily von Ziegesar. It was released by Little, Brown in 2004.

Plot summary

Nate Archibald and Blair are back together, again and everyone is waiting for college acceptance letters. Blair and Serena open the letters together. Serena gets into every school she applies to, including Yale, Blair's dream school. Blair gets placed on the waiting list for Yale and only gets accepted into Georgetown and she is not happy about it. Nate gets into every school he applied to with Brown and Yale promising him spots on the lax teams. After finding out that Blair got wait listed for Yale he decided not to tell her about getting in. Serena visits Harvard, Brown and Yale and finds love at each school from Drew, the geeky-adorable tour guide, and Christian, the budding young artist who's dream is to paint a picture of her and the entire singing group at Yale. Blair's baby sister, Yale, is born. While at Georgetown, Blair finds out that Nate got into Yale and breaks up with him, again. Vanessa is making a film about getting into college, and so she interviews every single senior and the asks what colleges they applied to and if they think they're going to get in. She and Dan also get back together and have sex, but later meets a girl named Tipphany who turns Vanessa's life upside down, resulting in a near breakup with Dan. The Raves show up to play at Vanessa's birthday party. Blair and Nate make up and leave in a taxi and go to Blair's house so Nate can see Yale. While there, Blair tells Nate that she's ready to have sex and Nate says they can go back to his house since Blair's whole family is home. They go to Nate's house and have sex. By the end of the book, Dan has decided to turn his poetry into song lyrics and is asked to become the lead singer for the Raves so he goes off and leaves Vanessa. Meanwhile, Jenny gets her first photo shoot, courtesy of Serena. But the photo shoot isn't what she expected and turns out to be an advertisement talking about how girls with big chests or small chests aren't popular. Serena feels bad about not finding out more about the photoshoot in advance so she arranges another photoshoot starring her and Jenny wearing clothes by the popular designer LesBest.
