Gossip Girl Gift Guide!

Nov. 27, 2009
Doesn't alliteration make everything better? OK, well in honor of today being Black Friday and all, we wanted to do something to get into the shopping spirit. So here is a Gossip Girl gift guide to help you come up with the hottest presents for your loved ones this holiday season.

For the Jenny on your list, you should definitely check out Fingertip only Gloves, as rocked by Lil J at her Cotillion. Or you could be less subtle and get her a gift certificate to Sephora so she could pick out some less offensive eye makeup...although she'd probably buy more of that raccoon stuff, so maybe scratch that idea and stick with the gloves.

For the Vanessa of your group, we suggest a Weave. Her's has clearly gotten out of control this season, so she should bag the one she has and start over. And for her uber-hipster soon-to-be boyfriend, Dan, we suggest a hipster V-neck T, like this one from Urban Outfitters. If you are not sure what size, be sure to err on the small side.

For the Blair in your life, who has exquisite taste for the finer things, we say keep it simple. What about a pair of Flannel Pajamas in case Chuck ever gets out of line? And it's not like Blair would ever set foot in a Gap herself, right? You'd totally be doing her a favor.

And lord help you if you have a friend like Serena. You might want to look into the existence of Chastity Belts in modern times (maybe try e-bay?). But more realistically, If you come across a a cute ornament you get it for her to wear as a hair charm, like she wore for her graduation and on several other occasions. But we know what a Serena would really want...clothes! The requirements for a Serenafied dress are: short, tight, going out dress (to be worn in the daytime) with lots of room for cleavage. Since you probably aren't on an Upper East Side budget, check out these dresses at Forever 21.

So there you have it. Hope that helps with your holiday shopping list this year. Got other suggestions? Share them here!

Some X-mas Love from Leighton

Nov. 25, 2009
What do Death Cab, Cher, Smashmouth, U2, Mariah Carey and Leighton Meester have in common? Give up?! They have all done covers of the Christmas Carol classic Christmas (Baby, Please Come Home). Check out Ms. Meester's just released version below:

The song is on the compilation album of mostly Disney Channel and American Idol graduates, A Very Special Christmas Volume 7 with proceeds benefitting the Special Olympics. After listening to clips from Miley, Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Tinsdale, etc. I can honestly say that Leighton's song is the highlight of the album (although Kellie Pickler seems to have an amazing version of Santa Baby...it's a little eerie actually.) Thanksgiving is tomorrow, so it's not too early to strat getting pumped about Christmas music, right?

What do you think of Leighton's Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)?

Blake Lively to Host SNL

Nov. 24. 2009

We all have our own opinions about Blake Lively's acting skillz as displayed on GG, Pants, etc. But on December 5th we get to see a new side of Ms. Lively: her comedic talents as she hosts Saturday Night Live. I think it's pretty fair to say that this could go either way. But remember, Blake is no stranger to SNL. Let's not forget Lively's last (brief) appearance on the show:

Will Blake be a good SNL host?

Clip 1: Serena attempts to rationalize her relationship with Trip

Clip 2: Van Der Humphrey Thanksgiving Prep

Clip 3: Nate is yet again Dan's therapist

Clip 4: Chuck and Nate Talk Srip (or Terena if you will)

Michelle + Coach = Hot Jewelry

Nov. 19, 2009
I am excited to report that Michelle Trachtenberg, who plays our favorite bad girl Georgina Sparks, is teaming up with Coach to design a jewelry line for their Poppy line, complete with "colorful crystals and faux pearls." I think it will be at least another week or so until we can see some preview pictures, but I will get them up here as soon as they become available. Here's what Michelle had to say about it:

“The collections are perfect representations of my whimsical attitude towards fashion and have that great mix of girly and edgy that I love." Girly and edgy, just like Georgina herself!

The Daily Intel's Brutal Weekly Recap

Nov. 18, 2009
I think by now most of us are aware of the hilarious nitpicking recap of the show done by The New York Times Daily Intel. Granted it's slightly random, but usually spot on and doesn't let the show get away with anything. Here's how it works: They give points out and take them away based on how real or fake various aspects of the episode were. For your reading pleasure, here is an excerpt:

Realer Than a Van Der Bilt Apartment With Forest-Green Walls and Framed Pictures of Horses:
• Dan would clearly walk down the street giving strangers high fives — even if he hadn't just had a threesome. Plus 1. Also, Plus 1 for: "Two girls, four boobs, one Dan Humphrey."
• B: "In the second grade I saw our gym teacher giving Lavern Glazer's mom the gladeye. Not only did it earn me the first A++ for gym in Constance history — I learned that my sexual-tension radar is unparalleled." Plus 1.
• "Vanessa is very vocal" during sex, Nate mentions to Dan, surprising us not at all. Arlo and Gabriella wouldn't have raised a girl who wasn't comfortable with her sexuality. Plus 1
.
• Nate knows he's not all "book-smart," like Dan Humphrey, but there are a few areas he has expertise in, okay? One of them is the politics of threesomes: "I know things," he explains to Dan. "I go to Europe. Chuck Bass is my best friend." Later, when Serena comes to him to tell him that she's "about" to have an affair with Tripp, his married cousin to whom he sacrificed his own reputation in order to get him elected to Congress, he's pleased to be further able t
o demonstrate his skill set. "Affairs with married people, threesomes, it just so happens everyone's problems are within my area of expertise," he says proudly. Managing marital scandals and political disasters are decidedly outside of that area, however, though if anyone needs help packing a one-hitter or feathering their man bangs, Nate is your man.
 Plus 5.
• Blair: "I don't converse with liars or Lewinskys." Plus 2.
• Jenny is reading Nylon. Plus 1, because we would, too, if our stepsister had been on the cover 1.5 million times in the past two years.

• Serena has insane long dragon-lady nails, which, combined with her dragon-lady tights, outweigh the bewildering unreality of her shoulder pads. Wash.
• B: "Olivia — just the starlet I was hoping to find."
O: "Hi Blair. Uh, Dorota, need to use my outlet for your towel warmer again?"
B: "Actually, I have a question: How do I win over shallow, superficial actors?"

O: "Calling them shallow and superficial didn't work?" Plus 1.
• Tripp has bad neckne. So real. Plus 1.
• Plus 2 for both Blair's theater-mask brooch and the tiara she wore as the queen in the play, which did not appear to be costume jewelry.
• "Dude, I'm Chuck Bass. Even Europeans must know what that means." Plus 10. Seriously, we swear sometimes they're writing this show for you, commenters.

• "He worked on the Oslo Accord? That sounds major." Plus 1, because at first when Jenny said that, it sounded like she knew what he was talking about, and then she made herself look like a ditz for a cute guy.

Faker Than Dorota Letting Blair Out of the House Wearing That Beret: • Rufus gave up his beloved effing Welcome Back, Kotter mugs for little effeminate espresso cups? Eh, minus only 1.
• Remember how in the first season Nate wanted to go to school on the West Coast? And how he went to Columbia in the end of the second season? Now he just hangs out in the penthouse at the Empire Hotel, apparently. Minus only 1, mostly for not being explained, since it's actually pretty realistic.

• We know we said this when she first came on, but it bears repeating: If Olivia is a giant movie star, why are there never paparazzi following her around, ever? We know this is New York and not L.A., but still, Kristen Stewart steps onto her balcony for a cigarette and it winds up on PopSugar.com less than an hour later. Why is the star of the famed Endless Knights trilogy blithely swanning off to get coffee — at a street vendor, no less! — undisturbed by flashbulbs?

• "Humphrey, this isn't terrible!" Blair says, approximately two seconds after Dan hands her his script. Minus 2 for the generosity and implied speed-reading.
• Why is Olivia so mature about everything? She's a movie star. Minus 3.
• Vanessa thinks Paul Hoffman likes her? HE IS A GAY. Eh, minus only 2.

Somebody to Love Video

November 17, 2009
This song has been out for long enough for me to get completely addicted to it, but just recently has the video surfaced. Leighton Meester's new single Somebody to Love off her upcoming album. It's hot, it's sexy, and it's a far cry from something our dear little Miss Waldorf would create (or even approve of. Remember generations of class and breeding had to come together to make her.) So, without futher ado:

Soak It All Up (While You Can)

November 16, 2009
GG Fans everywhere can commiserate with this bit of sad news coming down the line. For most of January and February, we won't be seeing any episodes of Gossip Girl, reruns or otherwise. Apparently the CW has decided to give their new show Life UneXpected the coveted Monday night slot, so first GG and then eventually One Tree Hill episodes will be interrupted. There will be a six-week break, but it will still end up being a full season as from then on there will be an uninterrupted string of GG every Monday without fail. So if you look hard enough and maybe squint your eyes, you can see a tiny little spark of light at the end of the tunnel. There is one more potentially positive aspect: Life UneXpected might actually be good. I mean, probably not Gossip Girl Amazing, but it is getting rave reviews. Here is an extended preview so you can decide for yourself:

One More Gaga

November 13, 2009
Can you tell I'm excited for the Lady Gaga performance? Here's yet another post about The Last Days of Disco Stick (last one, promise!) But this clip is longer, better and its part of the actual performance taken from the show. Enjoy!

Promos from The Last Days of the Disco Stick

Nov. 11, 2009
Well, the threesome came and went and it ended up being pretty tame for a threesome if you ask me. Realistic, but tame. But it looks like next week is where the real fun begins, in the form of fallout and flashbacks. Check out one of the promos for next week's show where Olivia (correctly) accuses Vanessa of liking Dan as more than a friend, and Nate calling Dan an idiot for having a threesome with two girls that are big parts of his life:

And who could forget the Lady Gaga appearance from next week's episode as well? In the last entry we have the behind the scenes interview with Gaga herself, and here we've got a short video that gives you a sense of what that will look like next week:

Lady G Talks GG

Nov. 9, 2009
The Nov. 16 episode of GG, appropriately called The Last Days of the Disco Stick contains a special guest appearance by the one and only, Lady Gaga. While the media has been trying to squeeze any details they can out of the case members about the episode and coming up short, Lady Gaga herself did an interview with MTV where she shared some deets about the upcoming show. She explains how she really wanted her appearance to work with the story, rather than just being a random, non-related song. , so she ended up having the freedom to do it in music video format, complete with ladders and 35 ft. long dresses. And she talks about how she loves taking her non-mainstream message to a mainstream audience. It sounds interesting to say the least. Here it is, see for yourself:

What do you think? Are you pumped to see Lady Gaga on the show?

Gossip Girl Culturally Irrelevant? Nah...

Nov. 6, 2009

Just because we all think (know) that GG is the best show ever, that doesn't mean that everyone else shares that same opinion. Check out this article from the New York Daily News, claiming that GG's is so over and like Serena in the GG blast from the graduation episode, irrelevant. Check out the article below and let us know if you agree or disagree:

Where'd the buzz go? 'Gossip Girl' no longer the hot series it used to be
OMFG, what happened to the "Gossip Girl" buzz? The CW series about the upper East Side's most privileged is well into its third season, and despite guest stars like Tyra Banks and Hilary Duff and "controversial" story lines like Chuck Bass' guy-on-guy kiss, the show that was once on the tip of everyone's tongue now seems to be in the back of their minds. And as any teenager knows, no buzz is bad news. "The silence is deafening," Syracuse University Prof. Robert Thompson, a popculture expert, told The News. "'Gossip Girl' was like Twitter - when people first discovered it, they couldn't stop talking about it. But the enchantment has worn off." CW officials say nothing is wrong. They cite the show's steady ratings and the fact that it remains their No. 1 series in the coveted demo of females ages 18 to 34. "'Gossip Girl' remains an incredibly valuable franchise for both the network and our parent companies," said a spokesman for the network. The show, he added, "has made an indelible impact on popular culture and remains one of the most powerful brands on television, and a signature show for the CW." But Thompson says the network should be worried, because "buzz is like a Dow Jones Industrial Average, an indicator of things to come." It's not unusual for interest in a series to level off as newer shows crop up. Let's be honest, the "Rachel" wasn't a popular haircut for "Friends'" entire run. But where there was once an "OMFG" on the side of every bus, there's now a "Vampire Diaries" ad. And because "Gossip Girl" catapulted into pop culture entirely on the back of its buzzworthiness - who is Gossip Girl? What was that song? Who makes those shoes S was rocking? - when magazines and blogs would rather pay attention to the Kardashians and Gosselins, the series is left with nothing going for it but its plot, and that might not be such a good thing. "It's getting a little long in the tooth," Thompson said. "The premise of the show was so interesting and exciting in the beginning, but this season's story lines don't seem to be clicking. It's not like if you watch an episode this season, you can say that it's fundamentally worse than it was last season - it just doesn't seem to have the shelf life of other programming." AOL Television's Maggie Furlong said that even if the series' actors land in the tabloids or on a magazine cover - Chace Crawford was recently on the cover of People, and the CW folks said there are four upcoming covers - they aren't as much of a draw as they used to be. "They're no longer that interesting," said Furlong, whose story about "Gossip Girl"-inspired Halloween costumes garnered only one comment from readers. "That would have never happened a year ago. Now everyone wants to argue about the Gosselins instead."

Do you agree with any part of this article? Is Gossip Girl past its prime?

Blake Does NYLON

Nov. 5, 2009
Check out Blake Lively's spread in this month's NYLON Magazine. Here are some excerpts from her interview with Stephanie Trong:

Blake on her new film, The Private Lives of Pippa Lee. "I had a leash around my neck, and Julianne Moore was taking pictures. I thought, What am I doing with my life? What is happening? How is this a good idea?"

How she pranks her friends. "I [credit-card] swipe my friends with, like, my phone or something, - I slide it in their butts. Like in middle school! You say ‘Visa! Mastercard!’ Just to give somebody a jump. I’m a prankster."

Her empathetic nature. "I feel a lot. I get really bad stomachaches all the time. So I went to a doctor, and he said, 'You’re a feeler. I take on people’s pain a little too much."

Is she completely different from Serena? "No, because I dress just like Serena! I own half her wardrobe, so it’s far too similar to the way I dress. I feel ridiculous at times with her – because I’m, you know, killing someone or marrying someone, but I look like me. I’m like, ‘Oh, this is absurd.’"

Ahhh! She dresses like Serena! Color me jealous. Here are some photos from the mag:

Gossip Girl Threesome Breakdown

Nov. 4, 2009
Well, its a little hard to ignore the big news of next week's episode, They Shoot Humphreys, Don't They? Yes, kids, that's right -- a threesome. But the big question is who are the participants going to be? Here's the promo clip:

Kristen Dos Santos from E! Online has some clues that will narrow down the possibilities:

  • One of the participants is not someone you would expect to film a threesome. That said, it's not over-the-top racy (it's the CW) so this actor's fairly pure image will probably just be a wee bit soiled, but not diiiirrrrty.
  • The threesome is definitely NOT Blair, Chuck and Nate.
  • Little J and Eric do not take part in menage-a-magic.
  • Chair does not take part in the three-way. Neither Chuck nor Blair.
  • The Gossip Girl threesome is two girls, a guy and ... a pizza place.
  • Chuck and Blair are still going strong as of episode 11.
  • Sources are still reporting that they are the long-term Ross and Rachel of Gossip Girl.
  • This just in from a rock solid source, which should excite some fans: I think a Nate-Serena pairing is VERY much a possibility this season!
  • A name who is NOT involved, who I could have SWORN would be. Skanky ho biscuit Georgina is NOT part of the threesome. Shocking, no?
Ok, so it's two girls (not Jenny, Blair or Georgina) and one guy (not Chuck or Eric). Who does that leave us with? We've got your more likely choices: Serena, Vanessa, Olivia, Dan, Nate,Tripp and some doubtful ones: Dorota, Lily, Rufus, Cece, KC, Brandeis...

I'm going to go out on a limb and guess Serena-Nate-Vanessa. What's your best guess?

UPDATE (from E!)
Gossip Girl:If you're a member of the Parents Television Council, avert your eyes! Turns out theGossip Girlthreesome is even racier than first reported, because it goes on for not one buttwoepisodes. (EvenStingwould be impressed.) The dirty deed goes down on this Monday's episode, but will be recounted with flashbacks the following week, Nov. 16, where we will learn--and see--even more about it.

If You're Wondering if Leighton Meester Wants You To,

She Wants You To.

Nov. 3, 2009
We already saw what Penn, Blake and Michelle were doing this Halloween, but where, you may ask, was Leighton? Well, it turns out Leighton Meester spent her Halloween up on stage with Weezer at the Hammerstein Ballroom in NYC. Leighton joined the band for the song "(If You're Wondering If I Want You To) I Want You To" Check it out:

Gossip Girl Stars Celebrate Halloween

November 2, 2009
I wonder what Dan, Serena and Georgina would be if they dressed up for Halloween...Well, on the Upper East Side they are probably above such things, and Dan has probably been burnt out from years of Rufus's over exaggeration of all Halloween traditions. But luckily, this was not the case for Blake Lively, Penn Badgley and Michelle Trachtenberg, all of whom spent this Halloween at Svedka Vodka Adult Playground Event Series” at 1Oak in NYC. As you can see below, Blake came dressed as a flight attendant, Michelle as a Victorian Woman, and Penn as a “I don’t know! I’m a half-assed someone. It was a really last minute costume.”(as he told Justjared.com) Penn also celebrated his 23rd birthday that night at the club.
