| Devastated by the recent plot twist in her life, Blair (Leighton Meester) turns her back on her predictable Waldorf existence in favor of a more wild and unpredictable lifestyle, causing Serena (Blake Lively) and Chuck (Ed Westwick) to have serious concerns about their friend. Vanessa (Jessica Szohr) convinces Nate (Chace Crawford) that it may be time to forgive and forget when it comes to his mother's Kennedyesque family, The Vanderbilts, who abandoned Nate and his mother when they needed them most. In a misguided effort to be completely honest with each other, Lily (Kelly Rutherford) and Rufus (Matthew Settle) agree to share lists of their past lovers. Penn Badgley and Taylor Momsen also star. | Even though the first day of spring is already here, it's still all cold and snowy in New York City. Vanessa tells her good buddy Dan about her and Nate's plan to take a trip to the Balkans for this summer. Nate has been upset with his Vanderbuilt side of the family (his maternal side) because they shut him and his mom out when he was having all those problems with his dad. His cousin invites him to a family event, but he his hesitant to show up. Vanessa and Dan persuade him to give his family (namely his grandpa) another shot, so they all go over to the mansion/country club. His grandpa welcomes him with open arms. While they are playing an ultra-preppy game of touch football, Vanessa chats with Nate's cousin's fiance. She tells Vanessa that although it may seem like Nate is not interested in politics, his grandpa and his legacy will probably convince him otherwise. Chuck goes to Serena concerned about Blair. S tells Chuck that she is just having a really hard time about not getting into Yale, and that they need to give her some space. Chuck doesn't buy it and goes over to her house, only to find his enemy Carter over there. When he tells B to stay away from him, she says that he can't be any worse than you, Chuck. He says he was trying to help her, but she asks him where he was when all her drama was going down. So he leaves. Meanwhile, Blair has turned over a new leaf and is trying not to plot, scheme, or control anything. In fact, if she can say "Blair Waldorf would never do this" than she does it. And Carter is her accomplice. She demonstrates this to Serena by walking out of the store with a pair of sunglasses she did not pay for. S calls Chuck for reinforcement. Chuck gets Carter to meet up with him, and when he does he is ambushed by Serena and a ticket to Dubai. She threatens to expose some dirty laundry of his from San Torini, and he obliges, saying that he was never the cause of B's odd behaviour, just a symptom. Lily's decorator, Becks, mentions that she used to date Rufus and Lily feels just a little stupid because she had no idea. She and Rufus agree to make a list of former lovers...which happens to include Slash, btw! S takes one look at Lily's list and pleads with her not to show him. When Lily sees Rufus's list, she gives him her "edited" list so they will be in the same ballpark...Later, Rufus finds her other lists in her purse. They fight because Rufus said he was relieved when he found her edited list. Later he comes back to her place and they make up. V is worried about Nate coming out like a clone of his cousins and he is very dismissive when she tells him about her fears. Chuck and Serena go to B's place and harass Dorota until they find out where she is. They are super worried but relieved to find out she was just at a Dean's house, begging for acceptance to Sarah Lawrence. They walk in on her crying, and she tells them not to follow her. At Nate's family's party, B informs S and Chuck that she is getting rid of the old Blair by sabotaging herself and committing social suicide by insulting and embarassing some of Manhattan's finest. Chuck tries to rescue her and she starts making out with him and tells him to sleep with her right now "to prove that nothing matters." He tells her no, because this is not the Blair he wants. And she walks away. Also at the party, Tripp informs Vanessa that Nate's grandfather has arranged for Nate to have a great internship with the Mayor's office this summer and she is shocked to find out that Nate is actually considering doing it and blowing off their plans to travel. She doesn't believe that it is something he wants, but more just something his grandpa wants for him. They fight. Nate finds Blair outside the party and they start reminiscing about back in the day when things were perfect. Blair reveals that she feels lost and doesn't know who she is anymore. Clearly, Nate can relate. He comforts her and they share a moment. Nate says he has spent too much time apologizing for his wealth and privilege and has decided to accept his legacy and all that comes with it, including the internship. S walks up to Dan and slaps him for sleeping with Rachel. But then she reveals she is not really pissed. Chuck reveals to S that he is losing Blair, and S encourages him to keep fighting for her, like she did for him. She tells him to make her feel safe but when he goes over to her house, he find Nate's jacket on her sofa. Nate has taken B home to make sure she was ok, and when he is about to leave, she asks him to stay... |
