| With the reading of Bart's will, Chuck (Ed Westwick), Bart's brother, Jack (guest star Desmond Harrington), and Lily (Kelly Rutherford) learn the fate of the Bass empire. Rufus (Matthew Settle) and Lily's relationship is strained as Rufus seeks details about the child he never knew he had. Noticing that his father has been acting strangely as of late, Dan (Penn Badgley) does some investigating and uncovers Rufus and Lily's secret, putting him in the awkward situation of deciding what to do with this shocking revelation and who to share it with. Blake Lively, Leighton Meester, Chace Crawford, Taylor Momsen and Jessica Szohr also star. | Ah, the reading of the will. Chuck asked Blair to come with for moral support, and Nate shows up for back up as well. Uncle Jack asks Blair to go out with him and when she refuses, he threatens to tell Chuck about New Year's Eve. Bart, in a letter, tells Chuck that he leaves the controlling share of Bass Industries to him. Uncle Jack is pissed, and Chuck figuring that his father set him up to fail, tells Jack that he can have the company. Jack is also Chuck's legal guardian. Blair tries to convince Chuck that Bart really did believe in him after all. Dan is having a hard time keeping his huge, giant secret from everyone in his life, especially Jenny and Serena. While Serena thinks Dan is avoiding her because he is worried their parents are falling back in love and Eric is getting annoyed with Jenny that she keeps intruding on his alone time with his boyfriend. The mean girls overhear Dan complaining to Rufus that he doesn't like lying to Serena and that secrets have been the cause of their break ups in the past. And straight to Gossip Girl they go with that information, asking everyone to start digging to find proof that Dan is cheating on Serena. Dan, unaware, tells Vanessa the story in public, and Nelly eavesdrops on their conversation and steals his phone. Later, Serena shows up at the coffee shop and asks Vanessa if she knows what's going on with Dan. When Vanessa texts Dan with some key information about Lily and Rufus and Nelly gets the message, the cat is out of the bag. With Blair's support Chuck decides to take over running the company that was left to him, and Jack tries to discourage him from doing it. Chuck offers him a position in New York, but Jack storms off, upset. He then calls Blair to apologize and convinces her to help throw a surprise party for Chuck at Brunch. Jack convinces Chuck to go blow Blair off and go out partying with Jack. Poor B is left all alone. At the adoption agency in Boston, Lily and Rufus's birth son's parent's have been notified that they were looking for their child. At first, they didn't want to meet. In the course of conversation Lily blurts out to Rufus that she is still in love with him, and it is clear that he is still in love with her too. Later in the day, the adoptive parents of Lily and Rufus's son agree to meet them. Chuck's fancy brunch is filled with friends and the board of Bass Industries. When Jack sets up Blair to take some important board members up to his office to see him, they walk in on quite the scene: Chuck at his desk with two girls in lingerie and coke all over the place. He then has to deal with the wrath of Blair and his important guests. He yells at Blair for organizing the brunch and for "trying to play the wife." At the party, Jenny and Eric have a little spat where they call each other annoying and conceited. And they don't even know yet that they are kinda-sorta related. But that changes when the mean girls tell Gossip Girl about the sibling sharing thing. Serena is understandably upset, both about the news and the fact that Dan knew. She says she needs some time to process and takes off. Serena tries to figure out if she can handle sharing a sibling with her boyfriend and Eric tries to convince her not to push Dan away. Chuck tries to confront Jack but Jack tells him about the "morality clause" saying that the board has the power to remove him from his post and put his legal guardian (Jack) on in his place. Chuck then heads over to Blair's with flowers and tries to apologize, but she says she can't watch him self-destruct and refuses to forgive him. Nate and Dan share a moment when Nate tries to comfort Dan about having his personal info blasted on Gossip Girl and he apologizes for what happened between him and Jenny. Rufus and Lily meet with their son's father and are told that their son "Andrew" was killed in a boating accident. But they are told that he had a happy life. Later after Lily and Rufus have left, the adoptive mom and dad say that they did the right thing, and that Rufus and Lily won't be back. They also say something cryptic about them having had to lose one son already so they can't lose another. Serena and Eric head over to Jenny and Dan's place and they try to sort out what's going on. S and D decide to try to make it work regardless. Jenny and Eric make up too. Rufus and Lily were just discussing how maybe they weren't meant to be a family, and then they walk into the loft and see all their kids sitting there eating pb and j sandwiches together, and grab each other's hands. Maybe it was meant to be after all. |
