| A sudden and tragic event impacts the lives of our favorite Upper East Side teens and their parents. Blake Lively, Leighton Meester, Penn Badgley, Chace Crawford, Taylor Momsen, Ed Westwick, Kelly Rutherford and Matthew Settle star. | Manhattan is rocked by the tragic death of Bart Bass, and none more so than his own family. Tonight's episode opens on the day of the funeral. Eric and Serena's grandma has come to stay with the mourning family, Chuck is at the hotel and up to no good with liquor and some twins, and Lily is, well, making lists to keep busy. I guess everyone mourns in their own ways, especially on the Upper East Side. At the Waldorf household, Blair complains to Eleanor and her fiance, Cyrus that although she has been trying to get in touch with him, Chuck has been ignoring her. It also might be worth noting that she has on an oversized black headband, the perfect appropriate accessory for a funeral outfit. Lonely Boy stops by S's place to check on her and she says she is fine and thanks him for being such a rock for her throughout this entire ordeal. They talk about how natural it feels for him to be there for her, and just at then Aaron walks in, making it a little uncomfortable for all three. He has also come by to make sure she is doing ok. She tells them both that she will be riding to the funeral with just her family, and she will see them there. Lily goes to meet Rufus in Central Park, and she tells Rufus how guilty she feels. Everyone keeps treating her like a grieving widow because no one besides Rufus knows she was planning to end her marriage. Rufus tries to comfort her and he tells her that this time he will wait for her -- as long as it takes. As Rufus is leaving the park, Lily's mom sees him on his way out and her suspicions are aroused. Later Lily checks a voicemail Bart had left her before he died, and in it he says he knows why she was in that mental hospital/rehab center place and that they need to talk. Chuck, while ignoring calls from Blair, meets with his father's PI and tries to buy the information that he has obtained for his father. But the PI tells him that there are other parties interested in the information. Hmmm wonder who that could be... Outside the church, Aaron and Dan not-so-subtly try to show the other one up with regard to and in front of Serena. Lily's mother starts giving her a hard time about Rufus, tells her she saw him in the Park earlier, and they agree to talk about it later. Blair and Nate arrive with a very out of it Chuck (is he drunk? high? both?) and Blair has to remind him how to walk. Dan is paying his respects to Lily when Chuck runs over to him and starts yelling at him to get out. Dan tells Chuck he never wrote the article, but Chuck says he doesn't care about that, but that Dan's father is the cause of his father's death. Serena shows up to defend Dan but in the end Dan bows out graciously and leaves. When Lily tries to comfort Chuck, he calls her a ***** and tells her that she is not his family. Back in Brooklyn, Dan tries to ask Rufus why Chuck would say that he caused Bart's death, and he avoids the question. Dan is suprised to see Rufus react to the news that Cece, Lily's mom, is in town. At the reception, Cyrus gets to thinking about life and death and love, and he and Eleanor decide to get married in a small, intimate gathering… the next day. Clearly Blair objects, but her objections are overruled. Jenny jumps at the chance to make a mends and offers to make her wedding dress. After the wedding, Aaron, out of nowhere, asks Serena to spend Christmas in Buenos Aires with him. Of course she refuses, seeing as how her step dad died less than a week ago and she has to be with her family. Aaron accuses her of still having feelings for Dan, and tells her to think about his offer. Cece pressures Lily to talk to Chuck and find out what he knows about Lily and Rufus. Just then, Cece gets an urgent call and leaves. Lily comes upstairs to find Chuck ransacking the vault to find her file. Chuck tells Lily, in about the rudest way possible, that he blames Lily for his father’s death and she slaps him for being so rude. Chuck tells her that after the will is read, she will never see him again. Cece then tells Lily that the PI tried to get her to pay him to keep quiet about the hospital in France incident. Lily implores her mother to pay him and Cece agrees. Blair follows Chuck out the door and tells him she wants to go with him and support him. He tries to push her away, but she tells him she will stand by him no matter what, and then she finally drops the “I love you” bomb. And his lovely response? “That’s too bad.” Serena tells Dan that Aaron invited her to Buenos Aires for the summer, kinda hoping her will tell her not to go. When he calls her out on this, she says she just wants to know how he feels about her. Dan just says that if she wants to go, she should go. She says she likes Aaron (in a really non-enthusiastic way) and Dan gets upset and leaves, quite obviously not saying how he really feels. Blair, still crying from when Chuck left her in the dust, confides in Cyrus. In a surprisingly touching scene, she tells him about what happened with Chuck and he hugs her and calms her down. It’s actually pretty touching. When he pulls away from her hug she even busts out with one of his favorite lines: Not enough! Later, Cece gets Lily to admit that she loves Rufus, and Serena walks in just in time. Serena then tells Lily that she is going to try to make things work with Aaron, and that if she and Rufus love each other, they should try to make it work. Meanwhile, Jenny is telling Dan what an idiot he is for not telling Serena how he really feels, and they head over to the Waldorf’s so he can confess that he doesn’t want her to go away with Aaron. Lily and Rufus decide to go away together for the holidays. In Chuck’s second meeting with the PI, he learns that Cece has decided not to pay to keep the info quiet, so Chucks buys the info himself. Dan and Jenny walk into Blair’s place just as Serena is telling Aaron that she will go to B.A. with him, and they seal it with a kiss. Alone, Dan tells Serena that she shouldn’t go away with Aaron and that they should give it another try. Serena reveals that their parents are in love with each other and that it wouldn’t be right for her to ask her mother to deny her heart a second time, with no guarantee that S and Dan would make it work any better this time around. She gives him a hug and tells him they’ll talk after the holidays. Chuck tells Lily that Cece lied to her (and to the PI) and Lily can’t figure out why her mother would finally allow this information to get out, after hiding it for so long. Lily just asks Chuck not to turn his back on those that love him. After Lily leaves he has a change of heart and burns the info he has on Lily. The wedding is adorable and all this talk of love is especially hard on B, but at the same time she is happy for her mother. Chuck then shows up in Blair’s room and she just holds him. Cece shows up at Rufus’s place herself to give him some very interesting information. She tells him that she wants to see her daughter happy, and since she is in love with him, this info has to come out if they have any chance of making it work. But as we are learning, rarely does Cece do anything without a hidden agenda. A very depressed looking Rufus tells Dan that he will never be with Lily. Dan tries to call Serena, but she ignores his call since she is with Aaron. Aaron tells her that he is falling in love with her. Rufus goes to meet Lily at Grand Central and says, “I just have one question…was it a boy or a girl?” !!!!! So are we to understand that Lily and Rufus had/have a child together?!?!?! Blair wakes up to find that Chuck is gone and has written her a note apologizing and asking her not to come looking for him. Yikes! Well, at least Eleanor and Cyrus are happy, right? Can’t wait to see how all this will play out… |
