■ NEVER BEEN MARCUSED BEST QUOTES
- Blair: It's like "Roman Holiday", only I'm Gregory Peck and he's Audrey Hepburn.
- Gossip Girl: Spotted -- Chuck Bass putting his new BFF on speed-dial. Is it the beginning of a beautiful bro-mance? Or the end of Blair's bid to be British?
- Blair: (sees Nate and Catherine on the floor) Oh my effing God!
- Gossip Girl: What's this? Chuck's date and Blair's date are mother and son? And Nate and Blair are exes? And Nate and the mother are in a book club? Now there's a novel plot twist.
- Blair: Duchess? I'm so sorry, for what I said about the botox. Your work is flawless.
- Catherine: I told him it didn't make any difference to me, because ... despite your best efforts, which are completely transparent, by the way, Marcus will never end up with a lowly Waldorf.
- Dan: (to Serena, about Blair/Marcus) So, she actually refers to him as The Lord?
- Nate: No offense, but don't you think you're a little outmatched?
Chuck: At squash? I've been playing my father since 8th grade, how good can Marcus be? Nate: No, I mean as a guy. Blair wants to be a princess and your greatest achievement is owning PART of a burlesque club.
- Blair: Revenge is so 12 hours ago!
- Rufus: I know, but when I talked about converting our storage space into a cafe I was thinking of a folding table and a coffee maker.

| ■ NEVER BEEN MARCUSED RELATIONSHIP DRAMA
- Serena and Dan wake up together on the beach. Dan thinks this means they're back together, but Serena says she's not sure yet. It feels right, but she's confused. She leaves, telling him they should take some time to think about this. Serena and Dan are taking the same bus back to the city, but Serena insists on keeping her distance, not wanting to get physical again. It doesn't work for long, though. Eventually they move to the bathroom of the bus to make out. Once home, Dan calls Serena to admit that they probably should spend some time apart, but then Serena invites him to Blair's party since he and Marcus both like soccer.
- Blair and Marcus start making plans for the year. He tells her he wants to stay in Manhattan, and Blair pushes to meet the Duke and Duchess, but he's adverse to the idea. Blair calls Serena (who doubts Blair's feelings for Marcus) and complains about Marcus' reluctance. While Blair's still on the phone, Chuck approaches Marcus and they make plans to play squash. Nate later points out to Chuck that he is outmatched by Marcus. Blair always wanted to be a princess, and Marcus is closer to being a prince than Chuck is. That's exactly why Chuck is getting close to Marcus, to find his flaws and get rid of him. Turns out, Marcus is reluctant for Blair to meet the Duchess because no one has ever been good enough in her eyes. Meanwhile, Blair is planning a sophisticated party in order to prove she is mature enough to meet the Duke and Duchess. Chuck brings Catherine to Blair's party where Blair immediately gets jealous, citing the woman's botox. But then Catherine introduces herself as Duchess Beaton and Blair fumbles, apologizing. Blair tells Catherine not to believe anything Chuck says about her, but Catherine insists that it doesn't matter. Blair isn't good enough for Marcus anyway. But when Blair catches Catherine and Nate making out on the floor of the library, she realizes she doesn't need Catherine's approval, just her cooperation. She blackmails Catherine with a picture of her and Nate.
- Catherine calls Nate and tells him they have to be more careful about their affair. When Nate arrives at Blair's party, he finds Catherine there and learns that Blair is dating her stepson. Later, Catherine texts Nate asking him to meet her in the library. When they meet, Nate complains that it's getting too complicated, and it's weird that Blair is dating her stepson. Catherine insists that she just wants to talk. Catherine offers to help Nate and his mother out financially. Then Blair catches them making out on the floor of the library.
- Nate turns to Vanessa when he can't reach Catherine to get advice on his family's situation. He admits that he knows where the Captain is. They make plans for dinner, but then Nate cancels to spend the night with Catherine. That is, after she's given him a little money.

| ■ NEVER BEEN MARCUSED SYNOPSIS
CW Synopsis
| Full Episode Synopsis
| | Blair (Leighton Meester) is over the moon that she is dating royalty and has every intention of becoming a royal herself, but a scheming Chuck (Ed Westwick) has other plans for Blair and hew new love, Marcus (guest star Patrick Heusinger). Serena (Blake Lively) and Dan (Penn Badgley) agree to keep their recent hook-ups a secret from their friends and family until they figure out what all this means for their relationship. Meanwhile, Nate (Chace Crawford) learns the downside to having an affair with a hot older woman, Catherine (guest star Madchen Amick), who also happens to be married. Taylor Momsen, Jessica Szohr and Matthew Settle also star. | This episode of Gossip Girl begins where the last one, "Summer, Kind of Wonderful," left off - at the beach, with Dan and Serena. Only it's the morning after, and they've just spent possibly the most passionate night of all time.
Or so we can imagine, based on Serena wearing only Dan's jacket.
These two are totally back together, right? Well, sort of.
Serena wants to take time to think about it for awhile first. But at the same time she can not get Dan out of her thoughts - and certainly vice versa.
On the bus ride back to N.Y. City from the Hamptons, the two of them keep staring at one another until they feel they have absolutely no choice but to get it on right there in the bus bathroom. Awesome scene.
For whatever reason, Vanessa has turned Rufus' art gallery space into a cafe or coffee shop of some sort while he was away during the summer. We're sort of confused as to where this story line is going but the two of them seem surprisingly close. He confides in her that he misses his kids, and thanks her for the hard work she's put into the new cafe. Expect this development to be a bigger factor in later episodes.
With the summer almost over, Nate plans to return to the city. But he gets some bad news from his mom - the feds are seizing the family's possessions because his dad is on the run from the law. Seizing an opportunity to help his friend - and help his own cause with Blair - Chuck arranges to sell his shares in the Victrola to help the Archibalds out of financial trouble.
Nate is far from pleased, but we soon see this issue is far from over.
Speaking of Nate, his relationship with married Catherine soon takes on an unexpected, sexy twist. While confiding in her about his family problems, she agrees to bail out Nate's mom instead ... so long as Nate keeps giving her some teenage loving, of course. Nathaniel had wanted to cut off their affair but is now roped back into it.
And in another interesting development, it turns out Catherine is actually the stepmother of Marcus, Blair's British boyfriend. Chuck learns this when he befriends Marcus over a game of squash and the Lord confides that the Duchess never seems happy with the girls he brings home. Chuck pretends to be sympathetic as he schemes to ruin Blair and keep her for himself!
Desperate to impress her royal beau and his stepmother, Blair decides to put together a big high society party in New York. That is where Chuck arrives with Catherine as his date and blows the lid off of the joint.
When she's introduced to Duchess Beaton, Blair is told that a lowly Waldorf willnever be good enough for her Marcus.
Just as Chuck Bass' scheme seems to have worked, Blair happens upon what will allow her to turn the tables - Nate blatantly in the act of giving it to Catherine at the hotel where the party is.Oh my effing god, indeed.
Blair wastes no time blackmailing Catherine, threatening to expose their little tryst. In exchange for her silence, Blair wants the Duchess' approval of her dating Marcus. Begrudgingly, Catherine offers Marcus her blessing to continue seeing Blair - as Queen B glares at her victoriously. Another awesome scene.
Foiled again, Chuck can't help but admire being out-foxed by Blair - but still vows to win her affections once and for all. |
