■ THE HANDMAIDEN'S TALE BEST QUOTES
- "Have fables fallen so out of fashion that princesses have to do everything themselves? Call us old school, but sometimes the fairy tale ending requires the knight to get off his ass and saddle up his steed."
- "Yes, Dan, that's why I'm here. I stalked you because I am just so obsessed with you. Wait, don't stop there. You're the whole reason I came back to New York. Cuz I just couldn't stop thinking about you."
- "Little Jenny Humphrey manages to get my pants off and have me not enjoy it. Quite the accomplishment."
- "Good thing someone else at the party was a lecherous as you or you'd still be up on that roof. And, no, I don't want to know what you had to do to get that tux."

| ■ THE HANDMAIDEN'S TALE SYNOPSIS
CW Synopsis
| Full Episode Synopsis
| | Dan (Penn Badgley) is torn between two girls when his childhood friend, Vanessa (Jessica Szohr), returns home and declares her feelings for him, just as he and Serena (Blake Lively) are trying to figure out what they mean to each other. At the infamous masked ball, Blair (Leighton Meester) sends Nate (Chace Crawford) on a scavenger hunt, but Nate is ultimately still distracted by his feelings for Serena. Although Blair makes it perfectly clear that outsiders are not welcome, a disguised Jenny (Taylor Momsen) and Dan sneak into the ball. Finally, Lily (Kelly Rutherford) asks Rufus (Matthew Settle) to accompany her to an Eleanor Waldorf (Margaret Colin) event in order to make Bart Bass (Robert John Burke) jealous. "America's Next Top Model" winner CariDee English makes a cameo as Bart Bass' date. The episode was directed by Norman Buckley and written by Jessica Queller. | The Masquerade Ball is on the way and Serena doesn't know if Dan feels like attending the event. Even though Blair points out he would go everywhere with van der Woodsen Jr, Serena isn't nearly as sure as her BFF is. Blair seems kind of shocked. Is Serena even considering the possibility of Dan having already a date? Serena tells her to shut up and, finally, calls Dan up. Actually, Blair wasn't that wrong. Dan isn't alone. His former best friend, Vanessa, who left the City the previous year after Dan told her he loved her, has just come back home. As soon as Serena heard Vanessa's voice, Dan says it's just his sister Jenny, but it turns out Jenny has just entered Blair's room. Serena looks at Jenny in disbelief, greets Dan quickly and hangs up. Anyway, Jenny came over Blair's room for a reason. She was helping Blair organize the Masquerade, hoping to join the event, as well. Unfortunately Blair gives her the cold shoulder. And speaking of Blair... she can't wait for the Ball. She thinks it will be her and Nate's chance to start over. Yep, this will definitely be The Night. Meanwhile, Vanessa confesses to Rufus she came back because of Dan. It turns out that, after some time apart, Vanessa realized she is in love with him too. Ouch. Masquerade time. Although Vanessa asked him out, Dan kind of bails on her and catches up with Serena, who is actually bored to death by the guy Blair set her up with. Serena confronts Dan about his lies and Dan assures her there is nothing going on with Vanessa. Too bad that Vanessa was right behind them and she does look hurt. As soon as Dan sees her Vanessa run away and he runs after her, leaving a very confused Serena. But Dan wasn't the only uninvited masked guest. A disguised Jenny was there, as well, thanks to Vanessa's fashion advice. Jenny tricks Chuck (who didn't clearly recognize her) into waiting for her half naked on the roof. Eager to get his surprise, Chuck is utterly disappointed when little Jenny locks him out. Serena can't believe Dan run after Vanessa and talks to Jenny about it. Jenny assures her she does not need to worry about Vanessa. Her brother and the curly brunette are just friends. Serena seems relieved and, before going away, gives her jacket and her mask to Jenny. Well, that wasn't the wisest thing ever. Everyone thinks Jenny is Serena: Nate kisses her declaring his feelings for van der Woodsen Jr. Jenny is stunned and runs away. Dan, who came back after telling Vanessa they can be just friends, sees Jenny running away, so he thinks Serena is still mad at him. Blair tries to keep her from running away but Jenny storms off anyway. But Jenny does lose a bracelet, so Blair realizes the runaway beau isn't anybody but Jenny. The Ball wasn't the only event that night. Eleanor Waldorf was hosting a party, as well. Guess who has just shown up? Lillian and Rufus. Yep, she invited him in order to make Chuck's father, Bart Bass, jealous. They kiss and Mr. Bass doesn't seem that pleased, since he goes and talk to Lillian immediately. As soon as Lillian and Bart start talking, Lillian turns her head and sees Rufus left the party. Her face is kind of disappointed. The Ball has finished and Chuck made it to get out of the roof. Blair doesn't want to know how and, frankly, so are we. But joke time is done. Blair tells Nate they're done, since he didn't even try to look for her at the Ball. Dan and Serena end up meeting and they make it up. And when Dan comes back home, Vanessa is waiting for him. She doesn't want to lose him as a friend and wants to know everything she missed. Dan starts talking about Serena and her world. |
