EXCLUSIVE! Designer Tracy Reese Weighs in on Gossip Girl Fashion

Detroit native Tracy Reese's ultra feminine and boho pieces are beloved by the GG set on and off screen. A graduate of Parsons School of Design, Reese became a CFDA board member in 2007. Her flagship boutique is located in Manhattan’s Meatpacking District and her collections are sold in top department stores and specialty boutiques including Bergdorf Goodman, Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom, Anthropologie, and Scoop as well as retailers throughout Europe and Asia. We asked Reese for her take on GG fashion and what she would pick out for the characters' holiday presents:

How big a fan are you of Gossip Girl?
I try to catch it and have seen the show a few times, but I am usually I’m still at work!

What do you think about the fashion on GG?
I love that it portrays high school students with such fashion savvy. Fashion has become a phenomenon amongst this age group and is an important way for teenagers to express themselves. The fashion on this show is almost an additional starring character or story line!

Which of your designs have been featured on the show? How has that affected sales?
Pieces from my plenty collection have been featured several times on the show. Vanessa has worn a couple of tops from my pre-fall 2009 collection, while Nelly Yuki wore a floral print dress from my spring collection during last season’s graduation episode. Most recently, Bree Buckley (Nate’s love interest, played by Joanna Garcia) wore a toga-inspired frock from the plenty holiday collection.

Any items from your current or future collections that you would like to see on the show? Why? How can our viewers buy those things?
I could definitely see Jenny wearing dresses from my frock! collection, in particular, the Ilana (a one-shoulder, tiered, '80’s/punk-inspired frock). Serena would look amazing in a draped strapless from my Tracy Reese spring collection. It is really fitted and would show off her amazing curves. Check out tracyreese.com for more information and to purchase my three collections!

Anything specific from your line that you think would make a good holiday present for any character on the show, or the actor that plays that character?
Vanessa’s boho spirit is very much in line with my plenty line. She wears a lot of exotic, tribal prints, which are often also included in the line. For the holidays, I think she would love the eclectic prints from my plenty home collection, many of which are inspired by my travels to India as well as our new plenty candle collection with exotic scents, they add warmth to the air and create a cozy setting.
